First Amendment Gallery is excited to announce Lust for Luck, a solo exhibit of paintings by Oakland-based artist Dan Hampe. For each image, Hampe aims to capture each moment in the painting process as he adapts and reacts to the painting’s intuitive nature.

Stylistically, Hampe utilizes imagery reminiscent of the Golden Age of Western Comics applied in a bold, industrial manner, bringing images in and out of focus in a collage-like manner. These images appear blurred and sometimes deteriorated, suggesting lost and taken opportunities in his process. These shifting directions memorialize the temporary process, allowing each to live on in relative permanence.

Lust For Luck opens January 5th 12-10pm and will be on view through Friday, January 25th at First Amendment Gallery located at 1000 Howard St. in Downtown San Francisco.  Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 11-6pm.  To receive a preview of Lust For Luck contact info@firstamendmentgallery.com.

Bio
Dan Hampe is an American artist (Born September 28, 1990, in Denver, CO) currently based out of Oakland, CA. Mainly self-taught, Hampe’s process is inherently reactive on both a long and short-term scale. Each body of work grows out of the last and each painting does in the same way.
